Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy is a procedure that treats varicose veins and spider veins.
A tiny needle is used to inject a solution directly into the vein.
By irritating the lining of the vessel, the solution causes it to swell and stick together, and the blood to clot.
Eventually, the body will physically absorb the treated vein.
You may feel mild discomfort at times, plus cramping for a minute or two as larger veins are injected.
You’ll need anywhere from one to several sclerotherapy sessions for any particular vein region.
You may also need medically-prescribed support hose and/or bandages for up to a few weeks afterward to assist in the resolution of the treated veins.
Typically, spider veins respond well to treatment in 3 to 6 weeks, with larger veins requiring 3 to 4 months instead.
