What does the laser actually do?Hair follicles serve a crucial function in maintaining healthy skin. Our goal is not to remove the actual hair follicle but to disable hair production or to make the hair finer and less visible... ultimately to reduce the appearance of hair. What does "permanent hair reduction" actually mean? The Sciton® Nd:YAG; the technology we use to perform laser hair removal, has received FDA clearance for "permanent hair reduction." Why are multiple treatments necessary?Hair has three stages, which constitute a "hair cycle." They are: growing, resting, and shedding. Only those hairs that are currently in the growing phase are "visible" to the laser. Consequently, multiple treatments are required. Most clients are happy with a 70 to 80% reduction in the amount of visible hair, typically achieved 6 to 12 months after their last session. Although the number of treatments necessary to achieve your desired result cannot be predicted precisely, the following are some helpful statistical averages:
The time between treatments is usually scheduled every six week to more consistently address the hairs that were untreated during the previous treatment, and to maximize the hair reduction that we can achieve with the next treatment. Please note that if you miss your scheduled appointment by two weeks or more, we will need to wait for twelve weeks from your last treatment to resume the treatment process. How do I prepare for my treatments? You should avoid any tanning for at least five days before and after your Laser Hair Removal treatment. You should also shave 1 to 2 days before your scheduled treatment; the most hair you should have during the treatment should be short stubble. Also, do not wax or pluck for a minimum of two weeks... four weeks is better. This is because the laser cannot see empty hair follicles! Complimentary consultation is available for a limited time.
